ITE JOURNAL, diciembre 2013... recomiendo los artículos sobre calles...

RECOMIENDA.-
  • The December issue of the "ITE Journal" (you should be able to read it below) contains several very great articles, which make me proud to be a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

"Sustainable Transportation: State of the Practice Review" by Jim Gough discusses a new ITE report which summarizes how practitioners are thinking about and applying sustainability principles.

An interview with David Bracewell, who leads Vancouver's active transport (walking and cycling) planning.

"Ahead of the Storm: Engineering for Disaster". As my grandmother always said, "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst", particularly for critical infrastructure planning.

"Traffic Engineer Bashing: Reversing the Trend" by Chuck Huffine discusses why and how the transportation engineering profession is leading to transition from automobile-oriented to multi-modal transportation planning, and incorporating more objectives such as community livability and environmental quality.

"Changing the DNA of City Streets: NACTO's Urban Street Design Guide and the New City Street Design Paradigm" discusses this great new guide (http://nacto.org/usdg ) by the National Association of City Transportation Officials which is changing the way planners and engineers think about, plan and design urban streets.

"Livable Streets: Lee's Summit" by Michael K. Park is the second in a series that describes how Lee's Summit, Missouri, a small Midwestern city, has implemented policies to ensure that public streets accommodate diverse users and uses, including walking, cycling, automobile, public transit, shoppers, businesses and residents.

These articles reflect the paradigm shift (www.vtpi.org/paradigm.pdf ) which is changing the way that practitioners define transportation problems and evaluate solutions. It's an exciting and important transition.
